This was a study I did in preparation for the Elly oil painting. Since I didn't have an actual model to pose for the painting, I really wanted to get her face nailed down to the way I see it in my head. The result was this, plus drawing after drawing after drawing of her until I was able to get the necessary features memorized for use in the painting. Just a little something extra!

There's a soft vulnerability to Elly in your painting that belays your comments that you didn't have a model posing for you :)!
You've managed to capture a far-way, melancholic sadness in her eyes and mouth that makes come across/seem very much like a real woman.

And I very much agree with the comments before me. Thank you for making her 'beautiful and accessible' in a non-'Hollywood' way.

You captured the glint of the eyes quite well along with the softness of her lips and hair. The smooth skin tones and cheek color adds to the beauty of Elly. Nice job!

Commenting again, because I can't get enough of your work!

I think this is my favourite realistic interpretation as Elly, and you stayed really true to elements from the original art. Elly definitely has a softer faced, more subtle beauty rather than drop-dead gorgeous supermodel and I think that's what makes her charming and unique :)

Thanks! Glad you like it. :) I got a lot of complaints out on Kotaku for this one actually, haha. A lot of people apparently think Elly should always be depicted as a weak, super-sexified, anime character. Frankly, there's so much more to her character that I don't think those depictions do her any real justice. She's as strong as she is vulnerable.

The majority of Elly depictions are so generic it's painful. Also I definitely wouldn't go by Kotaku's taste... they give 10/10 for EE boobs on 11 year old bodies.

I think you came the closest possible with a realist style to how her in-game art depicts her which is NOT a super-sexy gorgeous model.

Elly is meant to be similar to Mary as an icon, her beauty more pure and natural and I totally agree with you!
